You just got engaged!!!..What’s next?

The Ultimate guide to planning your BIG day

So you just got engaged and you’ve been receiving all the texts, calls and e-mails from your family and friends saying congratulations. After all the well-wishes, you now have the big task of planning your special day. You may get overwhelmed thinking of the various important steps to take..Have no worries, RAE is here to help and that is why we have put together this quick checklist for you.

  • Decide on a budget – Drawing up a budget is a very important factor in the planning process; so it is essential to have a discussion with your fiance´ in order to ensure that you are on the same page.
  • Create your guest list – You and your other half will need to decide on the approximate number of guests you will like to invite to your wedding. The number of guests may affect the venue options and also the price.
  • Pick your wedding date – It wouldn’t hurt to select a few potential dates, this gives you more leeway especially when you have your mind set on a particular venue. It is also okay to have your date fixed, if you’re open to more venue options. Check with important family members to make sure that your dates works for them especially if they will be coming from out of town/country.
  • Pick your venue – Now that you have picked your wedding date, the next thing to do  is to book your venue. You do not want to take your time in securing your venue because there are so many people getting engaged daily.  Please book your venue down months in advance, some couples book theirs a couple of years in advance (Yes, it’s that serious!). Saturday is the most popular day to get married and if that’s your day of choice, then it will be better to get to booking. There is a possibility that another couple has their eyes on your date and your potential venue; so beat them to it 🙂
  • Enlist the services of a wedding planner or not? – We will discuss this in a separate blog…. but it will be a great idea to enlist a wedding planner before you pick your venue.

  • Book your Vendors- We will discuss this in a separate blog

  • Pick your wedding attire -We will discuss this in a separate blog..

  • Final guest count -After compiling your final guest list, send over your final head count to the venue and caterer. Create your floor plans and table plans as well.
  • Remainder payments– Sort out any remainder payments and balances to be paid on the day of your wedding and after the reception. Have all cheques and cash ready for the various vendors. Majority of vendors require final payments 1-2 weeks prior to wedding while some require it on the day of.
